Production Report #5

CONCEPT OVERVIEW

I will be exploring the general idea of how AI has affected the landscape of professional industries. The project will involve me creating 3 AI-assisted artworks and having in-depth conversations about them with 3 individuals all from different professions and backgrounds.

A lot has occurred over the last two weeks, and they arguably have involved the most important developments of the entire project thus far.

In the first week, I continued to create a series of 3 mini projects that included photos, videos, and documents and presented them to my participants for evaluation and discussion.

Here are a few of my AI-assisted creations:

Photography

PROMPT: “photograph, a person at the top of an escalator with their back to the camera, low angle looking upward, silhouette, black and white”

PROMPT: a woman sitting down next to her bicycle along the water, in pittsburgh across from acrisure stadium, black and white, street photography, candid photo

PROMPT: trees during late fall, no leaves, path, 50mm lens

PROMPT: a pink dogwood flower, vibrant colors, close up, shallow depth of field, very realistic

Video

PROMPT: A butterfly emerging

PROMPT: A rocket launching

 PROMPT: A lone tree standing

I was able to have a second advising session with my technical advisor, Aaron Austin. During our meeting, he provided me with a technical analysis and feedback on my progress. He suggested that I should consider exploring the use of ChatGPT 4, an online tool that allows users to enter prompts to receive responses. Additionally, Aaron suggested having a conversation with the bot to explain my project in detail so that it can offer me insight about things I may have overlooked or not recognize as relevant to what I should be looking to do for the project. It was able to generate interview questions and ideas for AI-generated content.

Here is what ChatGPT suggested for interview questions, AI artwork, and documents and to create:

My experience with ChatGPT 4 so far is limited. However, it does appear to give high quality answers to prompts and allows access to community created bots which includes trivia, image generator, writing helper, and many more.

In the second week, I was able to meet and interview all my participants and conduct an interview centered around the topic of AI in their respective fields. Each of them offered great insight into what they do and their opinions about AI.

The topics I discussed with all 3 are as follows:

-       Introducing themselves and discussing more about what goes into their work

-       Opinions and experience with AI

-       Showcasing my AI work and gaining feedback from it

-       Collaboration of ideas to create AI work

-       Talked about technical ability with AI

-       Talked about ethical considerations with AI

-       Talked about philosophical perspective with AI

Along with presenting AI generated content that I produced on my own, I went an extra step and created AI content with my participants input during the interview. I felt this allowed them an opportunity to interact with the process and to find out how their creative human vision stands with AI’s ability to also “see” data.

Overall, despite having two participants needing to withdraw from their initial commitment due to schedule conflicts, I was able to quickly find a very competent professional who was more than happy to be of help. Due to the scale of this project, I will be sharing more in my reports including the AI work my participants and I did together and the topics that were discussed. I am making advancements toward my final presentation that will reflect my findings throughout this challenging but rewarding journey.
