Production Report #7

CONCEPT OVERVIEW

I will be exploring the general idea of how AI has affected the landscape of professional industries. The project will involve me creating 3 AI-assisted artworks and having in-depth conversations about them with 3 individuals all from different professions and backgrounds.

I’d like to preface this production report with a thank you to everyone who has offered me feedback regarding my project.  I’ve been working very hard on its development and always open to receiving thoughts, insights, and opinions about what I can do to improve it.

Compared to the early stages of the project when so much time and energy was needed to create the 3 pieces of AI-assisted art and prepare to conduct the interviews with my participants, this past week gave me some much-needed down time to reflect and process the tasks I’ve completed thus far in order to start bringing it all together.  As challenging as it is with an emerging concept approach to the project’s theme, the evolution of it during the project production led to very satisfying results.

Among the risks that any project may be faced with, perhaps the biggest one as it relates to my capstone is the potential for there to be “scope creep”. In other words, the chance of the initial defined scope failing or being stretched beyond capability was my biggest worry because my project involves the participation of three individuals. That is, while I can shape the conversation with my conversation, I have no control over what they share with me. Thankfully, I am happy to share that the outcomes from the interviews have contributed to my goals to align my project strategically, communicate the potential I want to show, and the impact I want it to have.

At first, I entertained the idea of using AI tools to help me create a presentation. The presentation AI site Tome can be useful, but I didn’t think creating a PowerPoint would truly encapsulate my capstone journey. After thinking about it more, I am leaning toward making a short film that sums it up but is also artistic in form. I will narrate it and present the information I found in a presentation style video but also telling a mini story. I also thought about including an AI narrator for this video, but I don’t think this is a great idea as I think I should be the one to explain my journey and what I learned.

The following things are what I need to do to make this film presentation:

  • Voice recording software such as Audacity to record my narration.
  • Stock image and video sites that are free to use to tell my story.
  • A written script of everything I am going to cover.
  • I will take everything into Premiere Pro and edit it all together.

Using the listed items above, this is what I’ll be looking into to make my final deliverable a reality. I am experienced in using these programs. Like any other video project I’ve done in the past, it will take a lot of planning in order for me to make it happen.

When I conducted my discussions, the general topics that I covered are as follows:

  • Learning more about their profession and what their workflow is like.
  • Possible AI integration in their workspace.
  • Reaction To the AI work that I created.
  • Participating in a collaborative AI artwork/document.
  •  Reflecting on the AI’s capability.
  •  Ethical considerations about AI.
  •  Philosophical perspective with AI.

Knowing this, I need to take all these topics and use it as the framework for this final deliverable. The topics stated above are very general but there is going to be a lot of detail included under each topic.

This past week, I have watched all my participants conversations and took notes from each person. I made sure to highlight the most important things answered in response to each question I asked of them. Since they gave well thought out ideas and opinions, I categorized my notes by separating them into sections and labeling them with names of the topics they talked about.

The challenge for this upcoming week is trying to compile everything I have learned throughout this journey into one single video. Writing a script will be a huge task and will need to be developed. This will be quite a process but it’s worthwhile as I believe the sharing of any information and knowledge is of value especially to those who are interested in gaining diverse perspectives in the interest of growth.
